If the World Was Crazy by Shel Silverstein

This is the poem you've been working on with Maria -our language assistant- during this week. It's a funny poem, isn't it? I post it here so that you can go over it again and check how much of it you got at first.

If the World Was Crazy

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd eat?
A big slice of soup and a whole quart of meat,
A lemonade sandwich, and then I might try
Some roasted ice cream or a bicycle pie,
A nice notebook salad, an underwear roast,
An omelet of hats and some crisp cardboard toast,
A thick malted milk made from pencils and daisies,
And that's what I'd eat if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd wear?
A chocolate suit and a tie of eclair,
Some marshmallow earmuffs, some licorice shoes,
And I'd read a paper of peppermint news.
I'd call the boys "Suzy" and I'd call the girls "Harry,"
I'd talk through my ears, and I always would carry
A paper umbrella for when it grew hazy
To keep in the rain, if the world was crazy.

If the world was crazy, you know what I'd do?
I'd walk on the ocean and swim in my shoe,
I'd fly through the ground and I'd skip through the air,
I'd run down the bathtub and bathe on the stair.
When I met somebody I'd say, "G'bye, Joe,"
And when I was leaving--then I'd say "Hello."
And the greatest of men would be silly and lazy
So I would be king...if the world was crazy.

Glogster tutorial (2º ESO)

I found this very easy Glogster tutorial on YouTube. Here you have this little help in case you missed something yesterday when we talked about how to use it and how to create our music glog.

Remember that you can't use only pictures and videos and that you have to write some text about the group, band, singer or type of music you choose. Be original! We will vote and post here the best ones.

Congratulations!

It's been a special day for some of you today. Those of you who last year took one of the Cambridge ESOL Exams received your certificates some hours ago. It was so nice seeing you up there on the stage taking your certificates, I'm so proud of you. I hope it's been a good experience for you too. I'd like you to take this as a starting point for your progress with the English language. Remember what "Mr. Cambridge" said: "this is a staircase that you have to walk up" and you've already started doing it really well.

Congratulations to you all!!

News links

As I said, here you have some links that you may find useful when you look for the news you have to bring to the class. Remember you can choose the topic you like the most, the one you find the most interesting, or simply the one you feel like talking about.

That's enough for the time being. I hope we all enjoy this activity. Try to be original!

Welcome back!

Tomorrow is the day. A new school year is about to begin for all of us. Some of you already know this place from last year and you know what we're going to use it for, more or less.  The 'new' ones, my new students in 1º ESO and 1º Bachillerato, don't worry because you will get used to it in just a minute.
Feel free to use the blog as much as you want, write comments, give ideas, ask questions to me and to your classmates... and many more things. I really hope we can get a lot out of this.
Let me start the year with a funny video about why it's important to speak a second language.

I hope you have a great start tomorrow and, of course, a great great year.

PS. Students from last year are also welcome to keep visiting and using the blog. I'm not going to be your teacher but I'm still here for you :P

Our English Corner on ITE

I know I said goodbye for the holidays but... this is kind of a good thing to know so I'm going to make an exception and tell you.

Today we've been posted on the blog 'TIC en Lenguas Extranjeras del ITE (Instituto de Tecnologías Educativas). This is the link where you can see the entry on the blog:

I just wanted you to know it and I hope you can feel as proud and moved as I am because of it.

Have a great great summer and see you again in September.

Closed for holidays

Well... tomorrow is school reports day, you all will get your final marks and go on holiday... at last!! :D.

This entry is just to say that even though we haven't had this blog for much time I think it's been something nice to work with for our classes. I'm already looking forward to starting next year again with it from the very beginning. Some of you will already know it but for most of you it will be a new thing, a new experience for the English class. I really hope we can get the most out of this 'place' but what I actually want the most for next year is that you think of the blog as something yours, as a place where we can all take part and where you can express yourselves.

Have a great summer!!

London WebQuest for 2º ESO

Hello there!

Yeah, yeah, I know... we don't start school again until tomorrow... but I have some time now... so here you (2º ESO) have your project for this term. You are going to make a WebQuest!

And you will wonder... what is that?? Well, it's like a treasure hunt on the Internet, where you have to find the information that you are asked to in order to achieve a goal. You will find all the information that you need in order to complete this activity in the document below these lines.. You just have to download it from SlideShare.  As you will read, the final purpose of the whole thing is to do a presentation in class. And... who knows? Maybe we can post some of your presentations here!

Oh, I forgot... DEADLINE: June 6th. You have an entire month to do a great job! And, of course, to have fun doing it!!

C u 2morrow!

#1

I was thinking: how about creating a blog for and with my English students in CORMAR? We all have things to say... why not saying them in English? Let's try to make something different out of this.
You can send me your thoughts, things that you find on the Internet or whatever you want to tell to the rest of the world (well... not whatever... you know what I mean...) and I will publish them here for all of us. We can also include things for our classes here. And... of course... MUSIC!! (always in English). Do you feel like doing it? It can be nice and fun!
